M52tu/M54 Billet Thermostat Housing

Introducing the M54/M52TU Billet Thermostat Delete Housing. This billet aluminum part is designed to replace the failure prone stock plastic housing on your BMW’s M54 or M52TU engine with a reliable mechanical thermostat while also providing the ability to simply water-cool the turbo on an aftermarket turbo setup. We utilized the readily available e36 mechanical thermostat, these come in many different opening temps allowing you to fit select the best temp to fit your application. Machined 100% in house at our Central-Florida facility, this thermostat housing comes with all the little pieces to properly convert to a mechanical thermostat on your E46.  On our test car we tested with a 80C (176F), during my testing, we did not see above 200F after hotlap drifting in 80F ambient temp.

I would recommend for a street/track car going no higher then the 80c thermostat.

Also available is the DELETE housing.  This includes a freeze plug for the cylinder head coolant recirculation port and retaining compound to ensure that the freeze plug seats into your motor and is well sealed for years to come.  This freeze plug closes a coolant passage that allows coolant to cycle within the motor and instead forces the coolant to flow thru the radiator at all times greatly improving cooling efficiency.

The oem E-Thermostat also has a very high safety opening point, so if the electronic function fails it will most likely overheat your motor before the safety temp is reached, in a high heat setting like in a turbo motor, or on the track, this could result in permanent engine damage.

We designed the housing with 2x -6orb ports, on the inlet and outlet side, these provide a simple, aesthetic and compact water-cooling solution for the turbocharger.  These ports were designed to be used with RADIUM swivel fittings as pictured, but traditional -6 banjo fittings should work just fine, we offer the radium fittings as an add-on and recommend them for a clean water line installation. Our kit comes with plugs for these ports if you do not have a turbo, or are not interested in water cooling. There are 2x 1/8npt ports on the rad inlet/outlet useful for additional coolant temperature/pressure sensors or to water-cool the wastegate if required for your build.  We have also included a “bleeding” port on the housing that utilizes an OEM E46 brass bleeder screw(included), this aids in coolant bleeding if there are stubborn air pockets in your coolant system.

Utilizing our 4-axis CNC we are able to smooth and port the internal water channels, this aids in water flow and helps to prevent water aeration. Depending on the variation, this kit is sealed to the motor using an OEM paper gasket, or for the E46 delete we utilize the oem oring gasket.

We have also developed a -16ORB to E46 quick connect hose adapter, this simplifies the installation in a more OEM or spec e46 where -AN radiator hoses are not required.

To provide a completely modular and “future-proof” solution for the radiator outlet/inlet ports we used a -16an ORB port, this allows simple conversion to AN radiator lines, or any size barb fitting with the correct adapter fittings.

Typically there are a few in-stock, if they are not on the shelf, there is around a 2 week lead time on these units.
